[Jagriti55] What wrong with Confidence?

Confidence as a concept is overrated, Confidence as an image is not required. We simply do a whole lot of stuff, we achieve a whole lot of milestones - including becoming parents:), in spite of being not-quite-confident of ourselves.
Even more overrated and damaging is the image of social confidence. Too many parents think their children are shy and too many parents are worried about it. While the former (being shy) may be correct, the latter (worrying) is not required. Imagine a world with all extroverts! Also a child can easily be socially less confident (say, shy of meeting new people) but may have high self belief which is enough for the child to lead a happy contented life.
If you want check out the recording of a session we did not confidence
Else read on for a summary:
We all want confident children - but maybe, just maybe, we are wanting the wrong thing. Let's spend some time understanding confidence and then decide what we want and how to go about giving the child the best of the child.
Here is a kind of summary of the session:
What would happen if relegated confidence as something unimportant, irrelevant and useless?
Our contention is that we would automatically focus on
- Acceptance
- Connecting with the emotions
- Understanding behaviour and fears
- Giving more opportunities and free play
- Letting GO of the child, our expectations, and images
Invitation - explore the next few days, as an experiment, by looking at yourself and others with this window: Confidence is just another image, hence not really important.
